eLearning Web 2.0+ (Lesson 3)

eLearning with Web 2.0+

Education is quickly becoming Web 2.0+ based. Although there is a 'steep learning curve' for older teachers and seniors, younger people - most especially the students - are already 'WebSavvy' – this is their world, after all. Please note: some of these links (hyper links) may be slow or not work well without High Speed - WideBand Internet 300k+ connections (i.e.: 30 year old 'dial up' 56k- capacity will result in slow video downloads).

Yet, with a little guidance the learning curve need not be that steep. For instance, you can go online and get free (except where noted) accounts at:

  1. Blogs (many sources, but some are from B2 Evolution - Is "Open Source" (requires a paid hosting site.) ... Blogger - Free Hosting (But first, requires that you have a Free Gmail account.) Sign up for Gmail. ... ExpressionEngine (requires a paid hosting site.) ... Movable Type (requires a paid hosting site.) ... Serendipity (requires a paid hosting site,) ... TypePad (requires paid hosting.) ... Windows Live Spaces ... WordPress - Free Hosting ... Yahoo! 360° - Free Hosting (requires you sign-up for a Free integrated eMail account.)

  2. Bookmarking: del.icio.us: popular place to share your favorite Web links and see what other people are bookmarking. Search the site by keyword (each link is tagged with descriptors both general and specific), create your own list of favorites to share with everybody else, or add to an existing collection. It's all about the tags. To see the most popular tags, click here.

  3. Photo Sharing (many sources, but some are from popular North American Online Photo Sharing WebSites include: Flickr , photobucket.com , webshots.com )

  4. Podcastng (audio): . PodCast.com: Free - "Find, play, and download audio and video podcasts from all over the world on Podcast.com and access them on any mobile device. To collect podcasts, get fast access to new episodes, and share with other members."

  5. Reading: . Bloglines ; and there are many, many other news aggregators (readers) out there; including Google Reader, MSN: Live Search , NewsGator and Yahoo! News to name a few.

  6. RSS – Really Simple Syndication: once you have subscribed to a reader and/or have an email address all you have to do is click on the Icon (there is one on this page, in the center column) or click on the eMail notification – and you will automatically be updated/notified as changes are made here.

  7. Video Conference/Online Telephone Conversations: Skype , and others.

  8. Videos: Dailymotion Videos: free video sharing site., ... GoogleVideo.com (Beta): free video sharing site, ... metacafe.com: a media and video sharing site originally from Israel; very popular in Europe, ... MySpace.com TV: video sharing site, ... Photobucket: free photo and video sharing site, ... Vimeo.com: video sharing site, ... Yahoo!Video.com: a video sharing site, ... YouTube.com: free video sharing hub. Upload your own footage or just watch and enjoy.

  9. WebPages: . WikiSpaces.com: Create simple web pages, in an Encyclopedia, that groups, friends, & families can edit together. ... or a WebPage on the youth oriented piczo.com (a free Website Builder)

Now, this would be getting towards Web 2.0+; collective intelligence - collaboration, democratic – non hierarchical, open to the public – real recognition, ownership – potential for passion, permanence – searchable resources, transparent – instant gratification, conversations and dialogue.
